6-1: M1s Vs Grove Menzieshill (Premiership) - 09/10/21

On a drizzly Saturday afternoon at Old Anniesland, Western Lettings Hillhead 1s welcomed Grove Menzieshill for a crucial Scottish Premiership match. Both sides in desperate need of points to start progressing up the table.

The match started with a bang, Andrew Black reacting fastest to a high rebound off the Menzieshill goalkeeper with a volley into the net to send Hillhead into the lead. A few minutes later, a scrappy tackle by resulted in a penalty stroke for the home side. Fraser Ward stepped up, however, his flick was saved by the diving goalkeeper.

Not to be held back, Fraser soon found another opportunity to increase the Hillhead lead at a penalty corner and fully despatched his drag flick into the bottom corner. The Dundonian's were temporarily reduced to ten men when Hillhead's marauding half back, Cameron Butler, was cynically tripped on one of his now trademark bursts out from the back.

The West end side used this time to their advantage and Fraser added another goal to his tally from another penalty corner. Grove Menzieshill got one back through Chris McFadden at a penalty corner which spurred on Hillhead to close out the game.

Coach Keith Joss has seen it all before, and implored his young side to maintain focus and keep their standards high.

Hillhead responded, with a Fraser completing his hattrick with a screamer and then adding a fourth to his record for the day and bringing the score to 5-0 overall.

Great chances then fell to Andrew Duke, Vijay Trivedy and the industrious Murray Ross but to no avail.

Murray Ross did eventually get a well earned reward with a cheeky finish from the baseline, refusing to let the ball go out for a long corner and sliding the ball through the keeper’s legs.

This could well be a significant game in Hillhead's season, and with a number of players still due to return to the squad, coach Joss will be keen to get back on the training pitch and prepare for next weekends away trip to face an undefeated Kelburne side.

Still unsure why JLS looks so grumpy!

Final Score: 6-1
