Western Lettings Glasgow Generations Cup - Friday Preview

Posted by Ewan Campbell on 14 August 2019

With only two days to go until the 2019 Western Lettings Glasgow Generations Cup gets underway, we take a quick look back at last year’s event and the rule changes made for 2019.

Hillhead claimed the U15 title last season with some delightful performances from their flourishing youngsters. The fact that several boys from that squad have now stepped up and made 1st team appearances proves that junior development is a core part of the club’s identity.

The biggest change to the U15 competition this year is that it is now a mixed event with boys and girls representing their respective clubs in full pitch matches. With matches lasting just twenty-five minutes, it will be essential that coaches have their teams well organised from the first whistle, as an early goal against could prove crucial to the outcome of the match.

Hillhead are delighted to have three boys returning who participated in last year’s competition. All three have been involved in senior adult hockey during the 2018/2019 season and their experience will be crucial to guiding the younger members of the team through the tournament. The girls representing Hillhead are a talented bunch and bring a wealth of experience of adult hockey from recent seasons. We cannot wait for the tournament to get underway to see our future stars compete against their peers from Glasgow and the West.
