Western Lettings Glasgow Generations Cup - Day 1 Review

Posted by Ewan Campbell on 17 August 2019

That's day one of the 2019 Western Lettings Glasgow Generations Cup complete and our u15s produced a fantastic evening of hockey. Throughout the six matches, the standard of hockey played was phenomenal. Two competitors will have gone home thinking they scored the goal of the night - both reverse stick shots into the top corner! Although we do of course think that Ronan edged with Hillhead's final goal of the night!

Uddingston came out on top with three wins from three. Despite being under early pressure in their first match against Clydesdale they were able to weather the storm and went on to win that match 3-0. Up next was a match against the hosts Hillhead - it was a tight and tense game. The crowd was loud and passionate which added to the atmosphere. Uddingston managed to nab the single goal of the game for a 1-0 victory. In their final game against Kelburne it was the Paisley side that took first blood early on. Uddingston rallied and scored two great goals in quick succession to take the lead. Despite heavy pressure from Kelburne after moving to 11 outfield players, Uddingston were able to see out the match and secure the trophy.

Despite competing well throughout the tournament Hillhead were unable to turn pressure into goals in the early matches. With a 2-0 defeat against Kelburne in the opening fixture and a narrow 1-0 defeat against eventual champions Uddingston. However, Hillhead produced a fantastic performance to round off the evening with a 3-0 victory over Clydesdale. Having worked so hard in earlier matches it was satisfying for the Hillhead support to see everything come together. Ava Wadsworth started the scoring with a well worked penalty corner routine before Ronan McGeogh scored the Hornet's second. The aforementioned goal of the night was still to come - the ball fell loose just inside the circle and Ronan connected with a first time reverse hit into the top right hand corner.

Hillhead would like to send out a massive thanks to all players, coaches, spectators, photographers and umpires for making last night a resounding success.
