Western Lettings Glasgow Generations Cup - Day 2 Review

Posted by Ewan Campbell on 17 August 2019

The rain stayed away for most of the day and only showed up in significant volume just in time for the last match of the day between hosts Western Lettings Hillhead and Western Wildcats.

There was a fantastic buzz around Old Anniesland for day two of the Western Lettings Glasgow Generations Cup with nine teams in action across two pitches. On the water was the 1st teams from Hillhead, Clydesdale, Western Wildcats, Uddingston and Kelburne who all produced moments of magic as the day progressed.

Western Wildcats were our eventual champions having won all four of their matches. The young side set out their ambitions early and defeated Uddingston 4-1 with their counter attacking style proving extremely effective. A close match against Clydesdale followed ending 3-2 from a late winner, a quickfire double ensured victory over a resilient Kelburne and the title was secured with a convincing 3-0 victory over Hillhead.

Western Lettings Hillhead had a mixed day at the office. In a close fought match against Uddingston they unfortunately succumbed to a 1-0 defeat as Uddingston pounced on a mistake. The second match was significantly more successful - a rapid fire double in the opening minutes of the match set Hillhead up to control the match. Clydesdale took the initiative in the third match and won 3-0 with two penalty corner goals. The heavens opened for the final match of the day, both sides had opportunities early on but Western broke the deadlock following a steal in midfield with the Milngavie side adding two more to their tally.

The Regional competition was won by Hillhead with two wins and a draw. The boys opened the day with a 4-4 draw against Uddingston before a resounding 8-0 victory over Kelburne. They eeked out a vital 2-1 victory in the deciding match against Clydesdale.
