Weekend Preview - 19th October

Posted by Ewan Campbell on 17 October 2019

It was a tough shift for Western Lettings Hillhead last weekend. The 1st XI picked up their first win but it was zero points for the 2nd and 3rd XI who had serious selection issues to overcome.

Western Lettings Hillhead 1s vs Uddingston 1s - Scottish Premiership - 3pm @ Old Anniesland

Alan Meikle's charges go into the weekends' match hoping to string together back to back victories for the first time this season. Last weekends dramatic victory over a well drilled Watsonians' side will be a welcome confidence boost for a side that has lacked consistency in performance and selection so far this season. The team pulled together and recovered brilliantly from 2-0 down to take the game 4-3.

This fixture has been somewhat unpredictable in recent years, with close matches being common but heavy wins for either side not unheard of either. Uddingston will be without their standout player of last season Bradley Hughes, but they have assembled an ambitious young team who were able to dispatch Grove Menzieshill last weekend. Things are looking up for the Hornets though, Hillhead Captain Graeme Campbell got the first goal last weekend that sparked the comeback and he will be looking for more this weekend against Uddingston while Callum Duke returns rested from his holiday in sunnier climes after missing last weekends action.

Craig Hilton makes a return to first-team action this weekend, the Scotland O35s representative scored a hattrick last weekend for the 2nd XI and has earned his call up this weekend.

Western Lettings Hillhead 2s vs Kelburne 2s - Regional 1 - 12pm @ Glasgow National Hockey Centre

The 2s are in action at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre against old rivals Kelburne in the early push back. The Paisley side have suffered two heavy defeats so far this season while the twos have been freescoring in their last two outings, notching nine goals albeit still managing to lose to Inverleith last weekend. This promises to be an exciting match as the Hornets look to put a bit of distance between themselves and the bottom sides in the division.

Western Lettings Hillhead 3s vs Edinburgh University 3s - Regional 2 - 1pm @ Peffermill

The 3rd team travel to Edinburgh to face the students third team on Saturday. Both sides have struggled to impose themselves on games so far this season and all that separates them is a single point. A win here will be very valuable for Jonny Duke's side as they look to turn their season around.
