October 7th Preview

NL1 – No Match

Hillhead ones have a well deserved weekend off after an agonising
double header where they were on the wrong end of two single goal
defeats against League giants Grange and Kelburne, having been
ahead against Grange and level with Kelburne with full time
looming.  Some terrific spells by Hillhead in both matches scant
consolation for their efforts.

RL1  - Hillhead 2nd XI v Western Wildcats 2nd XI

Hillhead men sit clear at the top of Regional League One after an
impressive away win to league newcomers Grove Menzieshill.  Colin
Gallacher (2) and Will Ebsworth (3) providing the finishing
touches to a complete performance.  Hillhead will look to
maintain their flawless start to the season with a home win
against a young Western Wildcats side.  Western have had a mixed
bag so far with one win, one draw and one loss albeit the loss
was at the start of the season.  Like every match in what is
effectively a reserve league for National One, Western will be a
test for Hillhead’s second string, however, with players
returning Hillhead should have enough quality to overwhelm their
younger opponents.
RL2 – GHK 1st XI v Hillhead 3rd XI
Hillhead threes will enjoy the familiar surroundings at Old
Anniesland despite playing away to GHK in round four of the
league.  Hillhead have been in sparkling form with their most
recent win against a very athletic Glasgow Uni second team.  This
week will be another severe test for the youngsters as they face
a well coached and organised GHK side.  The two sides had close
encounters the season before and will no doubt be closely matched
again.  Hillhead should have enough quality though to see this
one out.

WD1 – Hillhead 4th XI v Clydesdale 3rd XI

Hillhead fours have had a tricky couple of weeks after such a
promising start to the season with close defeats a poor return on
good performances.  They are no doubt playing good hockey but are
failing to capitalise on their possession.  This Saturday they
face last season’s champions Clydesdale threes.  Hillhead should
relish this encounter as they will enjoy playing hockey against a
good hockey playing side in Clydesdale.  Despite their form
Hillhead will fancy their chances in this one.

WD2 – Hillhead 5th XI v Giffnock

Hillhead fives host Giffnock seconds on Saturday after a
disappointing defeat to Glasgow University at the weekend.  The
fives if fielding a settled team can be a force in any match and
will be competitive against Giffnock given their home advantage.

WD3 – Clydesdale 4th XI v Hillhead 6th XI

Hillhead’s junior development squad with a number of new recruits
have had a mixed start to the season with a couple of wins, a
draw and most recently a narrow defeat to Uddingston fives.  This
weekend they travel to Titwood to play Clydesdale fours.  Captain
Frail will be keen to get back to winning ways and will be
confident his young squad can bounce back from Saturday’s

WD4 – Clydesdale 5th XI v Hillhead 7th XI
Hillhead’s sevens travel to Titwood on Saturday on the back of a
scoring draw with a young Ayr twos side.  Clydesdale five may
well field as young a squad as Ayr so Hillhead’s experienced
players will need to be at their best to take something from this
