Hillhead 1s vs Western Wildcats 1s – 3pm @ Old Anniesland (Water) – National League Division 1

There will not be any fond memories in the Hillhead camp from the final game of 2018 when these two sides met in National League 1. On their home turf, Western Wildcats ran out 6-0 victors and cemented their place in the top 4 of the countries top division.

Just six points separate the two sides going into the match on Saturday and Hillhead will be confident that a good performance could yield valuable points to tighten the gap at the top.

Ross Jamieson will be buoyed by the fact that he continues to find goals in 2019, while youngster Jude Boslem is always dangerous in the opposition circle. With just five games remaining to secure that much coveted European playoff spot this fixtures takes on extra importance for Mark Ralph’s side, but he will be feeling quietly positive with his sides recent performances and promising training sessions.

Hillhead 2s vs Edinburgh University 2s – 4.30pm @ Old Anniesland (Water) – Regional League Division 1

As it stands the gap between these two sides is eight points and the students have only lost one game this season, a 5-2 loss to Kelburne 2s way back in early September. A win for the Hornet’s here would see that gap drop to five points and the title race become a lot more interesting.

Having seen off a potential banana skin fixture last weekend Campbell/McGucken will be looking for a much improved performance from their talented side. Player/coach Craig Hilton’s preparation for this fixture has been typically intense with excellent sessions aiming to exploit potential weaknesses in the students’ line up.

Forwards Chris Wilson and Leo Howes will be looking to start with a bang and Fraser Arnott’s midfield workrate will be crucial against a fit and skilful Edinburgh University side.

Hillhead 3s vs Glasgow University 1s – 1pm @ Garscube – West District 1

Hillhead travel just up the road to Garscube Sports Complex to face an in form Glasgow University side. With several former students in the Hillhead ranks it is important to secure three points and the resultant bragging rights.

The development team continue to go from strength to strength, with huge improvements in the youngsters competitiveness and skill level. The experienced adults should not be forgotten however, as it was Josh and Colin who shared the four goals scored last weekend.

In the final fixture ahead of the crunch match against Uddingston, Jonny Duke’s side will be looking to maintain their impressive momentum and possibly even a clean sheet as a reward for the hard work that the side are putting in.

Hillhead 4s vs GHK – 12pm @ Old Anniesland (Water) – West District 2

What looks like a straightforward match for the 4th team on paper could in fact be a tricky one. With the unfortunate withdrawal of GHK 1s from West District 1 – Hillhead expect to face a strong team on Saturday as players will filter down to GHK “2s”.

However, this could be viewed as a preview of what to expect next season should the 4s secure promotion from West District 2. Matches against GHK are always tight and provide many moments of excitement for spectators.

Gordon Macintyre-Kemp returns this weekend and can also call on the services of Simon Adams and Dougie Graham in defence. After a 7-0 thumping of Clydesdale last weekend, everyone will be keen to keep the goals flowing and hope that the defence can remain typically resolute. The 4th team currently have one of the best defensive records across the Scottish leagues and will be keen to hold on to that through to the end of the season.

Hillhead 5s vs Kelburne 5s – 1pm @ Lower Windyedge – West District 2

After seeing off the threat of Rottenrow 2s last weekend, the 5th team turn their attention to Kelburne 5s. The Paisley side currently hold a 7 point advantage over Hillhead but confidence will be high going into the weekend for the Hornets as Lower Windyedge always prove tricky for visiting teams.

Toby Stevens returns to anchor the defense which should free up Andy Macey to apply pressure upfront.

A tight game is expected here!

Hillhead 6s vs Dumfries 2s – 2.15pm @ King George Playing Fields – West District 3

Lewis Campbell’s side fell just short last weekend against Clydesdale and face another tough test this weekend against Dumfries 2s. A single point currently separates the two clubs who have comparable goal scoring records. Robin Gillies, Geoff Duke and Al Baxter are all expected to feature bringing with them a wealth of experience that not many clubs can call upon.

Good luck to all teams and umpires this weekend!

Cup and Plate Preview – Sunday

Hillhead 1s face Dunfermline Carnegie in the Scottish Plate at Woodmill High School on Sunday, 1pm push back. This is expected to be a tough fixture for the 1s as Carnegie will be keen to test themselves against top division opposition ahead of a potential playoff appearance in their bid to be promoted to National 1.

The 2s host CALA Edinburgh at Old Anniesland at 12pm in the District Plate and will be hoping to progress to the next round against the East District 2 side.

The 3s face a tricky fixture against Watsonians 3s who have been in good form in East District 1. As with our 3s, the Edinburgh side are in the hunt for league and cup silverware and will be keen to get one over the Hornets here and book their place in the semi finals. The match takes place at Mary Erskine school at 3.30pm.

The 4s face off against Western Wildcats 3s on the water at Old Anniesland, with push back at 4.30pm. Wildcats have had a mixed season in West 1B and GMK will be hoping to put them to the sword in the late fixture.
