1st XI vs Grange 1s - Preview

Posted by Ewan Campbell on 2 November 2018

This weekend will see Hillhead match up against an in-form Grange side as both teams look to consolidate their position at the top of National 1. As it stands Grange hold a two point advantage over the Hornets while having played one game fewer. Coach Mark Ralph will be hoping that the Hillhead boys will be able to match and then exceed their performance levels shown against Clydesdale in last weekends 3-1 victory for the full 70 minutes against a clinical Grange side that competes to the very end. Grange come into the match in good form having recently despatched Gordonians 10-0 away from home as well as pulling off a remarkable comeback against Grove Menzieshill, despite having been 0-3 down at halftime the Edinburgh side eventually ran out 7-3 victors.

Hillhead continues to benefit from the fantastic depth available at the club. Newcomer Daniel Hoare has settled in nicely to life at Hillhead, providing another calm head around the backline and after a strong showing against Clydesdale the defence will also be able to call on the talents of Grant MacMillan who will be looking to secure a position in the 1st team for matches after Christmas. Of course, the midfield will miss the presence and miles covered by David Gay, and "I'll actually have to tackle someone now" was definitely overheard at Thursday training. However, there is plenty of experience in the ranks who will be able to adapt and deal with these new circumstances. The 1st XI forward line may well be the least selfish in the league, not only have they been finding the net themselves but are also happy to set up teammates who have bust a gut to support them as shown by the dozen different scorers so far this season.

The match starts at 3pm at Old Anniesland, grab your Hillhead colours and a jacket and come and support the boys. Goals and excitement are guaranteed in this crucial  match in National League 1!
